indie ebook cover

While enjoying a night of gambling in Las Vegas, an Egyptologist named Carl Schlein is attacked and murdered during a chase where he loses the Egyptian cartouche pendant he was carrying.

Julie Mayes, a well-known model and socialite in Las Vegas wakes up the next morning to find her parents and financial planner in her kitchen. Wondering what they were doing there, they inform her that her current boyfriend, a lead guitarist for a hair metal band, stole her trust fund. Her parents tell her they’ve cut her off; they hated her lifestyle and hated her boyfriend.

After hear parents leave the house and having nowhere else to turn, her financial planner informers her that her late eccentric Aunt Gretta had left her with a “paranormal” investigation business – “Lunar Eclipse Paranormal investigations”. Until she gets her modeling/art career to where she wants it to be, this would be her only source of income. Or she could sell all the property, or sell the business.

Julie goes and visits the investigations agency where she meets Frances DeFazzio, the receptionist, who answers a phone call and starts “channeling” Napoleon Bonaparte, to Julie’s astonishment, is then directed to Robert Allison’s office

Robert, lying on the couch, looking all pale and with a bandage on his neck, complains about vampire girls, and then notices Julie, whom he recognizes from her work. He flirts and irritates her to the point where she tries to see if she can be the boss and run the place. He tries to reason with her but she then threatens to turn the operation into an art studio/gallery as she’s very skeptical about the paranormal and thinks the whole operation is a fraud.

Robert ends up ruining a date that Julie was on and while they exit the diner, the person who stole the amulet from Carl, places it in her hand, only to collapse dead in front of them from a gunshot wound.

The next day, Julie opens her mail and finds an invite to a special event – the maiden voyage of an inter-casino skytrain from Cameron Moisen, a wealthy and power hungry man involved in development projects. Julie also did some digging and found out what they now have in their possession, the cartouche of the Pharaoh Kamose. Not only is it very valuable, it’s said to have the power to resurrect and control him – but that such power may come at a cost. After visiting an associate of Carl Schlein – one Professor Hinckman, who relates to them how Carl Schlein was murdered and asks for them to hand over the cartouche.

After leaving the office and returning to their office parking lot, they argue as to what to do next. Do they try to solve this case and find out what’s going on? Is there a mummy’s curse involved? Should they just turn over the cartouche to the police? While arguing about whether to give the cartouche to the police or try to solve the case, Julie and Robert realize that they’re not alone and get a lot more than what they bargained for….
