Goddess of Battle by Gwendolyn Rachel Ackerman

Goddess of Battle is the tale of two young women living in Israel and Palestine. One is a young American woman who naively throws herself in the middle of the conflict and must come to terms with how she must compromise the tenets she was raised on to survive. The other is a young Palestinian woman who spends a few months in California learning English and exploring the freedom of the U.S. before returning home to get married to a physician ten years her senior. Tyra, the American, ends up a border policewoman guarding Bethlehem, where Noureen, the Palestinian lives and eventually the two establish eye contact that turns into something more.

Gwendolyn Rachel Ackerman

Gwendolyn Rachel Ackerman, who also uses Gwen Ackerman, is a novelist, short story writer and senior journalist who has been covering the Middle East for the past 30 years. Her first novel, Goddess of Battle, is informed by years of covering the Israeli-Palestinian battlefield. Her second novel, in progress, is the story of the land in the time of ancient Canaan. She believes that humans have the power to change the world by reaching out to one another and discovering that what they have in common might be enough to start a little ripple in the pond that could, with time, create the waves needed to change the world.
