Dead Man's Hammer by Christina Engela
“Dead Man’s Hammer” is the third title in the Quantum Series by Christina Engela.Other Formats...
The planet Deanna was just another third rate colony in the Terran Empire – and its reputation for being the center of the universe as far as weirdness was concerned didn’t help much. Most people who lived there thought it was ordinary, boring even. So did Gary Beck, aka Beck the Badfeller – at least until he ran over an obsidian crow with his Jeepo and didn’t have a spare tire (things quickly went down hill from there).
Obsidian crows frequently got run over because quite frankly, they were too damn lazy to get out of the way and anyway, they would just get up and walk off again afterwards. They were flightless birds, mainly because they were extremely hard-bodied and far too heavy to fly – unless they fell off a cliff, or got launched from a catapult (anything will fly if launched from a catapult – ask the Navy).
An assassin had come to Deanna, and she had a score to settle. She was pretty, but as most people know, beauty can be deceiving. The same poets who wrote about Helen of Troy as the face that launched a thousand ships, would probably write about Villainessa Tittle as the bitch who sank them. As an assassin, she was the worst kind; which meant she took pride in her work, enjoyed what she did for a living – very, very much – and above all, that she was bloody good at it. And this time unfortunately, it was absolutely 100 percent personal.
About The Author...
While Christina might not be the only writer – or even the only sci-fi writer from South Africa, she is most certainly the most authentic, eccentric and unique sci-fi/fantasy/horror writer to originate from that country!
This is not just because of the characters or settings she creates, or the unique situations she imagines, but also because of her life experiences, her unusual outlook on life – and the strange and often wacky things she notices in the world around her – and of course, her quirky sense of humor! In her fiction, she creates believable characters, and spins gripping tales that transport her readers to distant worlds, becoming absorbed in their lives and adventures!
Christina is the proud owner of a warped sense of humor, and it shows in her writing – and also typically in ordinary conversation!
She writes in the science-fiction/fantasy/horror genre, and has already published more than 20 titles in three series – and others, including a children’s book about bullying.
