The Lily on the Wall by Nancy Hand

Mark Caldera has lost his partner, and lover, and is on the verge of losing his ship when he accepts a job he doesn't want, transporting cargo he's not ready to handle. When the agent accompanying the cargo leaves something behind Mark is required to make hard choices with an uncertain outcome. When the result of his choice seems to lead to even greater difficulties, the entire ship is put at risk.

Nancy Hand

My family liked to tell stories and I suppose I caught the "bug" fairly early on. I just enjoy telling tales, short and tall. I wrote a column about odd exploits (and people) that were part of my job (high-tech) for a technical e-zine for a couple of years. Then I decided to start writing down some of the other stories.
I use the science-fiction genre as a background. I'm not particularly interested in robot wars or the technical requirements of space travel. Travel between planets, in another society, could be much like traveling between countries is to us. So my stories are simple tales about people having to deal with something a little out of the ordinary.
