The Unsame Ones by Stephanie
I was born in January.
So I am January, and everything that it entails. I bear the same name as a million other Januaries just like me, the same look, the same genetic makeup, the same job, the same face, the same goals, and the same dreams.
I am and will be a secretary for the rest of my life. I am good at what I do, I was made for my job, and my job was made for me.
I am Same.
I have lived the Same as every other January like me for seventeen years.
And a year from now, on the first of January, I will die from the same genetic defect every January has died from. No January has ever lived past eighteen.
No January has ever wanted to.
I believe I have been infected with the Unsame Virus. My head aches, throbs, and pounds
without ever stopping. Before now, I never felt pain. I know I must turn myself in. That is the only logical thing to do.
It all started with the hideous Unsame One who crossed my path, and thrust a strange object into my hands. It is he who is to blame, and it is I who must fight this. I cannot shut out my master, keeper, and overseer, Time---nor disobey the clock. I will forever march to its dictates, and remain true.
I am a Same One.
I was born Same.
I have lived Same.
And I will die Same.
I am January.
I am Same.
About The Author...
I'm an author, artist, adventurer in all new and good things.
I love thunderstorms, you know, the kind when the power goes out and you have to go get the candles.
I do a lot of hoop dancing---with hula hoops, because its tons of fun. I also have a special place in my heart for ice skating. Me and my sister make our own ice skating rink in the winter. My sister and I do a lot music together, and it's on our bucket list to do some busking in the near future. I like to call myself a gypsy, because I've never fit into the conventional lifestyle, and gypsy sounds more interesting, anyway.
I enjoy listening to as well as making all kinds of music. African, Rock, bollywood Hindi music, Christian, pop, Irish, movie soundtracks, the works.
I like visiting interesting museums, folk dancing, visiting new places, abundant people, camp fires, gathering shells and other crustations on the beach* aquariums (fishy watching) photography, the zoo, making music, random acts of kindness---Who doesn't like that? Thinking deep, complex thoughts, treasure hunting, snowball fights, discovering hidden identities, star-filled nights and knights, shooting stars, serendipitous moments.
I'm the messiest oil painter around---when I paint, more paint gets on my hands than on the canvas. It's very peculiar.
I enjoy art in all its forms, it brings me closer to myself, to the divine, and to others.
One reason why I love writing so much is that I can take something very ordinary like the alphabet, and create images, feelings, emotions and stories with just words. And with those stories, I can create a connection with someone else, and somehow that thought makes me very happy. It's incredible. And humbling.
