Popular Girls by Sheila Michelle

| 16-year-old unpopular girl Kitty Laine gets more than just a culture shock when she moves with her parents from Mequon, Wisconsin to Las Vegas, Nevada almost in the middle of her first semester of her junior year in high school. She's reluctant to go to her first day of school at Sahara Palms High School, but when she does, she doesn't realize just how life-changing her first day at her new school is going to be, and it all starts when the PG's, Popular Girls, shockingly befriend her, and since they did, she agrees to be their assistant. The PG's are Prima Donna Queensridge, Olive Lowes, Poppy Hendrichs, Ursula Steele, Lauren Dawson, Ariana Garcia, and Rika Nitzu, and they happen to be the most popular high-school girls in the world, as well as having the distinction of the first letter in each of their first names spelling out the word POPULAR. The PG's won't answer anyone who doesn't say Popular Girl before their name, doesn't stand for any bad talk about them, and each one of them have over a million followers on social media. They literally live for being popular, and constantly tell Kitty that there's no other way to be. But Popular Girl Olive tells Kitty a lot of information about the PG’s that the PG’s don’t want anyone to know, including information about an original PG, Olivia. Once Kitty gets to know the PG’s, she’s unsure if she still wants to be their assistant, and sees firsthand that not everyone likes the PG's and the last thing they want to be is like them, and she especially sees this when a girl gives the PG's a very in-your-face opinion on how she feels about them and about popularity and idolatry in general.
One day, the PG's find out some very disturbing information about one of their very own, and this changes the structure of the PG's forever. This now makes Kitty really rethink about being the PG's assistant more than she's ever had, and it even makes one of the PG's think about who she is and what's really important in life. Her characters are usually beautiful, conceited teen girls who are in a serious need of an attitude adjustment (Popular Girls), as well as ones that are considered to be some of the luckiest girls in the world, but have to deal with a lot of issues that no one would ever want to have to deal with (Queen of a Kind; School, Sex and Secrets). Writing has always been a passion of hers, and will continue to be.
When she's not writing, she loves reading mostly non-fiction, but will read anything that she finds interesting. When she's not writing or reading, she loves looking at YouTube videos, going to concerts, eating spicy foods, watching old and new movies and TV shows, and shopping online and in stores that she can't seem to stay out of. A native of Wisconsin, she lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
