Bar-20 Days - A Hopalong Cassidy Novel Fiction - Westerns
View Seal's bio page

Clarence Mulford created the forerunner to the iconic Western hero when he wrote Bar-20 Days and brought Hopalong Cassidy to life.
But this is not the Hoppy of the silver screen and television as depicted by William Boyd in the 1940s and 50s.
This is a hard drinking, cigarette smoking, none-to-gentle with his language Cassidy that, right or wrong, backs his friends play in this, the first in a series of novels that stretched from 1914 into the 1950s when Louis L'Amour was chosen by Mulford himself to continue the saga.
Bar-20 Days was Hoppy's debut and 100 years later, he is still alive and well on the plains of Western Texas.

Hopalong Cassidy rides into danger again with the hands of the Bar-20 Ranch in West Texas. Rustlers are running rampant and it is up to Hoppy and his sidekicks to find the man responsible.
But be warned, this is NOT the Hoppy William Boyd protrayed on the Silver Screen and Television. Mulford's Hopalong Cassidy is a hard-drinking, roll-your-own smoking, itching to get rowdy cowboy ready to back the play of his friends at the drop of a hat.

Jane Porter's dreams of marrying Mike Farley, the handsome cowboy who lives on the neighboring ranch, are shattered when Mike suddenly marries a redheaded stranger he met at the Wild Horse Saloon in Casper, Wyoming. After Mike stomped all over Jane's heart with his cowboy boots, can Jane ever trust her heart to a man again?

Mike Farley marries beautiful Samantha Jo Smith after a whirlwind courtship with no thought to Jane Porter, his childhood sweetheart and the woman everyone in Fremont County thought he would marry one day. Mike soon learns to regret his hasty marriage to Samantha. Can Mike win back Jane's heart even though he had shattered it into a million pieces?

Longtime friends and neighbors Jim Porter and Liz Farley turn to each other for support after the unexpected death of their spouses. Will Jim and Liz's friendship turn into something deeper even though they both feel they have had, and lost, their chance at love?

Is it ever too late for love? Is it ever too late for second chances?

Set in rural Wyoming, Second Chances is a sweet contemporary western romance that will warm your heart. One reader stated, "I read it through in an evening, and felt as if I had spent that evening with 'salt of the earth' folk." Another reader said, "I loved the double, no triple, second chances. It was a very sweet ending."

This is one skilled author and this was a really satisfying book. - N. Reed

Crossing the continent, Carl falls in love with his brother's fiancée while set to wed another girl, but he might lose everything if the murderous thug Berto Acosta has his way. Carl battles a band of outlaws, a prairie fire, blizzards, a trackless waterless desert, and his own brother—all for the hand of feisty Ellen Bates.

"I finished The Man from Shenandoah at half-past midnight because I couldn’t put it down." - Utah Reader

"This is a book to prize, and not only for its gritty realism, exciting action, and compelling characters. The story further engages us by examining the ties that hold family and community together. Not many Westerns do that. Heartily recommended!" - Western Writer's Newsletter

"Marsha Ward has the ability to grab readers by the lapels, yank them into her stories, and make them care deeply about her characters." - Phyllis Dugan

"Marsha Ward's western novel of love, honor and survival is an exciting ride from beginning to end. From watching his brother marry his fiance to rescuing a Mexican bride when her intended is killed, the story kept me reading with good conflict and plenty of action. Just when I thought things were going a little too smoothly, Marsha throws in an unexpected twist. I recommend Ride to Raton." - Heidi Thomas
