Annette Langer

| |
Annette Langer enjoyed a successful career with the Federal Government in a variety of interesting jobs from court reporter to office manager before taking an early retirement. She trained for a new calling then, this time as a travel agent. It was a great fit as it complemented her own love of travel. Now retired from planning other people's trips, she has focused on her writing and shares a wide spectrum of topics based on her own life experiences.
"Healing through Humor: Change Your Focus, Change Your Life!" is Annette's first full-length book. More than just another self-help book, it offers coping techniques to help overcome the effects of practically any medical mishap or malady by finding the funny side to some not-so-funny challenges. She employs humor to illustrate examples from her own health history (including a brain injury suffered in a head-on auto accident and breast cancer). You'll find such chapters as "My First Cruise...My First Gallbladder Attack" and "How to Bathe While Bandaged or in a Plaster Cast" to tickle your funny bone. You'll also find tips on how to amuse yourself (and others) while recovering from illness or injury. The book is balanced, as well, by offering more serious tips on how to move forward.
Her second book "A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to the World: Diary of a Fearless Travel Agent" proves that life can go on after medical challenges. It follows her lifetime of world travel and the many hilarious and sobering situations in which she's found herself. You'll shake your head in disbelief over such experiences as being held hostage in a workers' strike in Tahiti or managing to sleep through an earthquake in Peru! She rounds out the collection with a multitude of funny stories, as well, from her travel to all seven continents.
Annette was a recent finalist in two categories in the prestigious Writers Digest national writing competition. She has contributed to magazine articles, the Livermore Wine Country Literary Harvest Anthology, O'Brien's Literary Speculator Bright Beginnings Anthology, the California Writers Club Anthology, and Chicken Soup for the Soul/Inspiration for the Young at Heart issue. Her short stories can also be found frequently in the monthly literary e-newsletter www.FoxandQuill.com.
Living much of her life in the Midwest near Chicago, Annette eventually migrated to the San Francisco Bay Area where she currently resides. She is an active member of the 100-year-old California Writers Club, and when not pursuing her writing and speaking events, she also keeps busy as a police volunteer with her local police department.

A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to the World: Diary of a Fearless Travel Agent Humor
Every travel agent has proclaimed at one time or another, "Someday I'm going to write a book about all of this!" Well, here it is.
Annette Langer takes you along on her lifetime of travels to all seven continents. In these pages, you'll share her adventures in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America, and even Antarctica. Tucked inside the print version of the book is a photo gallery section showcasing some of the more exotic destinations in which she's found herself. (Check out the Photo Album page of her web site for a sampling.)
Sometimes Annette's escapades are amusing, even comical, and sometimes they're downright scary or just plain weird! But no matter what the situation, you can bet the tales of her explorations are always lively and informative. You'll marvel as she finds herself in the most unusual places and, at times, sticky situations---from being held hostage in a workers' strike in Tahiti to managing to sleep through an earthquake in Peru! She rounds out her collection with a multitude of funny stories as well.
Her spirit of adventure and positive attitude, coupled with her trademark brand of humor and ability to laugh at herself shine through on practically every page.

Healing through Humor: Change Your Focus, Change Your Life! Humor
What could possibly be funny about a brain injury or breast cancer? You'll be surprised. These true-life stories show the lighter side of some not-so-funny challenges and demonstrate the upside to the uphill struggles with illness and injury and the downhill triumphs in overcoming them.
Annette Langer has created just the right "portable support group" a person needs to get through hard times with her easy-to-read, sometimes laugh-out-loud, book. Her stories relate many of her own personal challenges—from a brain injury suffered in a head-on automobile accident to breast cancer—as well as many of the scrapes and stumbles we all face. All the while, she stays upbeat and positive, guiding the reader to discover the inner strength to meet his or her own challenges in life.
Some of her chapters will tickle your funny bone while other parts of the book offer more serious, practical coping techniques. You're left with the realization that better times are possible despite the obstacles.
Here's a sampling of chapter titles to whet your appetite:
"My First Cruise...My First Gallbladder Attack"
"How to Bathe While Bandaged or in a Plaster Cast"
"Dr. 'Hottie': Everyone Deserves at Least One"
"My Positive Past (So Far)"
"How the Ducks and Others Helped Me Pass the Time"
"Losing Your Job, Not Your Life"
"Healing through Humor: Change Your Focus, Change Your Life!" is the perfect get-well gift for anyone struggling to overcome many of life's challenges or even as a reward for yourself when you too are facing less than sunny times. Come take the journey to self-empowerment and survival, even in the face of seemingly impossible circumstances, with a good laugh along the way.
