Cues & Clues To Children's Behaviors: A Guide to Raising a Happy, Well-Adjusted Child How-to
Do you know how your child gives you cues through his behavior when he is angry, sad, frustrated, or anxious? Do you know what is causing these emotions and behaviors? Do you know how to help him?
Cues & Clues To Children’s Behaviors is a comprehensive guide to understanding children’s behaviors. It describes the parent’s influence on their child, highlights ineffective parenting styles and how it affects the children. This Chapter is followed by physical, language, social and emotional development of a child from infancy through adolescence. Knowing the developmental stages of children will help the parents formulate realistic expectations of their children’s behaviors and avoid unnecessary frustration.
Chapters on Self-Esteem, Anger, Anxiety, Stress, Traumatic Stress and Depression describe causes of each emotion, behaviors by age groups from toddlers through adolescents, and strategies to intervene when these emotional problems arise. These Chapters also give coping strategies for the adults if they are experiencing the same emotional problems as the child.
Parents’ divorce can have a significant impact on a child’s emotional health. The Chapter titled Divorce and its Effects on Children describes ways to help your child deal with his emotions when a divorce occurs.
The Chapter on Attention Problems discusses the possible causes of inattention and strategies to help your child or yourself if you also have difficulty paying attention.
The Chapter on Becoming an Effective Parent gives a daily guide to effective parenting.
Is there a cultural component to parenting? The last chapter addresses this aspect of bringing up children.
The book is written in a very accessible, reader friendly style with lots of examples. The objective is to give concise, to the point professional information to help the parents, caregivers and teachers be in tune with the child’s emotional health and be able to help him as needed.
